Advanced Machinist All Shifts Available $22-33/hr Job Description The Advanced Machinist plays a key role in a steel manufacturing environment by operating and maintaining a variety of machining equipment. This position requires strong precision and attention to detail to lay out and plan cut paths, determine proper tooling, monitor machining processes, and adjust feeds and speeds to achieve accurate results on large steel forgings.
Responsibilities Operate overhead cranes safely for loading and unloading machines. Lay out and plan cut paths to ensure accurate and efficient machining operations. Determine appropriate tooling for each job based on material, design, and machining requirements. Monitor machining processes and adjust feeds and speeds as necessary to maintain quality and productivity. Manage chip generation and maintain a clean work area, including sweeping and shoveling as required.
Measure final pieces using rulers, pi tape, dial indicators, and calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances. Perform inspections of machined components to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards. Complete all required documentation in paper or electronic formats accurately and on time. Read and interpret blueprints to set up and execute machining operations correctly. Set up and adjust manual lathes, manual mills, and other machining equipment as needed.
Use machine shop tools and equipment, including micrometers and other precision measuring instruments. Apply basic programming and MDI techniques when working with CNC mills or lathes, where applicable. Follow all established safety policies and procedures at all times. Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly to support smooth production flow. Essential Skills Minimum of 6+ years of machining experience working with mills, lathes, saws, or boring machines on large steel forgings.
Hands-on experience with manual machining, including manual lathes and manual mills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints for machining operations. Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, rulers, and pi tape. Experience operating lathes and mills and making machine adjustments to maintain quality and performance. Strong understanding of tooling selection and machine setup for various machining processes.
Ability to complete documentation accurately in paper or electronic formats. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately. Physical ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications CNC mill or lathe experience is a plus. MDI (Manual Data Input) experience is a plus. Experience with Haas and Fanuc controls is beneficial.
Familiarity with Bridgeport mills and machine shop environments. Mastercam or similar CAM software experience is a plus. OSHA or machining-related certifications are a plus. Experience with multi-axis machining and machine setup. Experience in inspection of machined parts and quality control practices. Union environment experience is helpful but not required.
