Machinist

Job Title: CNC Swiss Machinist Job Description This role operates and sets up CNC Swiss machines and bar feed equipment to produce small, highly intricate components primarily from brass and copper, with some work in steel and aluminum. You apply strong machining fundamentals, interpret G and M code, and perform thorough quality checks, including first-piece inspections, to ensure parts meet precise specifications in a high-volume production environment.

Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC Swiss machines, bar feed machines, and related lathes to produce small, intricate parts to specification. Interpret and work with G and M code to run and adjust CNC programs as needed. Read and understand blueprints, job travelers, and work instructions to plan and execute setups and production runs. Perform first-piece inspections and ongoing in-process quality checks to verify dimensions and tolerances.

Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to inspect and document part quality. Adjust machine settings, tooling, and offsets to maintain part quality and production efficiency. Work with brass, copper, steel, aluminum, and other materials while maintaining high standards of finish and accuracy. Support high-volume production by effectively using bar feed machines, Swiss lathes, and rotary mills.

Collaborate with teammates across shifts to coordinate work, manage priorities, and meet delivery dates. In some areas, assist with or take responsibility for ordering material and tooling required for production. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and shop policies. Contribute ideas for process improvements and safety enhancements to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills At least 3 years of CNC machining experience with lathes, Swiss machines, or bar feed equipment. Hands-on experience operating and setting up CNC Swiss machines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and job travelers to set up and run jobs accurately. Working knowledge of G and M code for CNC machining. Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments for quality checks.

Strong understanding of machining basics, including tooling, feeds and speeds, and material behavior. Ability to perform first-piece inspections and ongoing quality checks during production. Willingness and ability to work 3rd shift or weekend shift as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with brass, copper, steel, and aluminum in a production machining environment. Experience in high-volume production using bar feed machines and rotary mills.

Comfort working in a self-directed environment where teams prioritize and divide work to meet delivery dates. Interest in continuing education and internal training to further develop machining skills. Experience contributing to process improvements, safety initiatives, or continuous improvement programs.
