Job Title: Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in a commercial or industrial environment. This role also operates a variety of machine tools and assembles parts to fabricate tools, mechanisms, and machines that support both experimental and production activities.
The technician ensures equipment reliability, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborates closely with engineering and production teams in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Responsibilities Inspect and test machinery and equipment regularly to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Diagnose equipment malfunctions by listening for unusual sounds, observing performance, and consulting with supervisors or other maintenance staff.
Dismantle defective machines and equipment, identify root causes of failure, and install new or repaired parts to restore operation. Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other moving components to reduce wear and extend equipment life. Install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatus, including transformers, wiring, and electronic components, in accordance with safety and code requirements.
Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment to support production processes. Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related control equipment to ensure accurate and stable system performance. Install, program, and repair automated machinery and equipment to support efficient and reliable production operations. Troubleshoot, repair, install, and program Omron PLCs, including making adjustments and updates to improve performance and reliability.
Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools. Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts as needed for maintenance and fabrication tasks. Consult with engineers and other personnel to discuss equipment design, capacity, and intended purpose, ensuring that maintenance and modifications align with operational needs.
Analyze specifications, drawings, sketches, and instructions to plan layouts and sequences of operations for fabrication and repair work. Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to support special engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives. Verify that machined and fabricated parts conform to specifications using appropriate measuring tools and inspection methods. Install parts and materials such as sheet metal, hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, lubricants, and batteries to complete equipment installations and upgrades.
Recommend and support changes to equipment, processes, and layouts to improve efficiency, safety, and adaptability through Kaizen and other continuous improvement activities. Maintain and troubleshoot machining tools and equipment to minimize downtime and maintain consistent production quality. Perform basic welding tasks to support equipment repair, modification, and fabrication when required. Follow safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance instructions, and contribute to a safe working environment by identifying and addressing potential hazards.
Prepare and maintain routine reports and documentation related to maintenance activities, equipment status, and completed work. Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and production teams to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to operations. Essential Skills Ability to inspect, test, and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues on industrial machinery and equipment.
Hands-on experience dismantling, repairing, and reassembling machines and equipment in a commercial or industrial setting. Proficiency in cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining mechanical components such as shafts, bearings, a
