Job Title: Material Handler Job Description This role focuses on material handling activities including picking, packing, box-making, and general shipping and receiving tasks within a warehouse environment in the Fishers/Indianapolis area. Opportunities are available across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts, and the position supports inventory control and manufacturing lines by ensuring materials, parts, supplies, and equipment are accurately received, stored, and distributed.
Responsibilities Perform physical and administrative tasks involved in the shipping, receiving, storing, and distributing of materials, parts, supplies, and equipment. Unpack and check goods received against purchase orders or invoices to verify accuracy and quality. Maintain accurate records of received goods and reject unsatisfactory items when necessary. Lift and move heavy items, including operating a forklift when required and when appropriately trained and authorized.
Prepare and maintain detailed records of merchandise shipped, including documentation and tracking information. Post weights and shipping charges and prepare goods for final shipment in accordance with standard procedures. Examine, stock, and distribute materials to inventory locations and manufacturing lines to support production needs. Prepare kitting packages for assembly production as needed, ensuring correct components and quantities.
Follow established standard operating procedures with a moderate degree of supervision, maintaining consistency and accuracy. Use RF scanners and related equipment for order picking, inventory management, and shipping and receiving activities. Perform order picking, packing, packaging, weighing, loading, and box-making tasks to meet daily operational requirements. Adhere to and promote appropriate safety procedures at all times, including safe lifting, equipment use, and warehouse practices.
Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent education. At least 1 year of work experience in a warehouse environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. English proficiency sufficient to understand, maintain, and promote safety requirements and procedures. Experience with material handling, including picking, packing, shipping, and receiving tasks.
Ability to work on your feet and remain constantly moving throughout the shift. Capability to work within standard operating procedures under moderate supervision. Additional Skills & Qualifications Basic computer skills with competency using standard software packages such as Word and Excel. Experience using RF scanners for picking, inventory, and shipping and receiving activities. Familiarity with forklift operation, loading, and material movement in a warehouse environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to working in a team setting. Good written and verbal communication skills to support documentation and coordination. Good organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong attention to detail. Ability to perform basic math calculations for weights, quantities, and shipping charges. Thorough understanding of appropriate warehouse safety procedures and best practices.
