Job Description The Phlebotomist supports laboratory operations through accurate specimen collection, processing, and handling while providing exceptional patient care.

This role requires strong venipuncture skills, the ability to work independently with minimal training, and flexibility to support multiple Kaiser medical office and hospital laboratory locations. The ideal candidate will have experience performing high-volume blood draws in acute care, outpatient laboratory, or hospital settings and be comfortable working with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Collect blood specimens accurately while maintaining patient comfort and safety throughout the process. Prepare and identify patients prior to specimen collection and verify patient information according to established protocols. Explain blood draw procedures, answer patient questions, and provide excellent customer service and bedside manner.

Label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining specimen integrity. Receive, sort, and process specimens delivered to the laboratory from other departments and locations. Accurately document patient information and specimen collection details within laboratory and electronic medical record systems. Follow physicians' orders and laboratory protocols related to specimen collection and testing requirements.

Maintain compliance with infection control procedures, OSHA standards, bloodborne pathogen requirements, and all applicable safety regulations. Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. Support laboratory operations during high-volume periods while meeting productivity expectations. Travel between Kaiser medical office building laboratories throughout the South Bay area as needed.

Work collaboratively with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care. Essential Skills Active California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) License. Current BLS Certification. High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience in a hospital, acute care, sub-acute, or outpatient laboratory setting. Proven venipuncture skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Experience drawing patients across all age groups, including pediatric and neonatal populations. Ability to perform high-volume blood draws in a fast-paced environment. Strong knowledge of specimen handling, labeling, processing, and transportation procedures. Excellent communication skills and professional bedside manner. Reliable attendance record and scheduling flexibility. Preferred Qualifications One or more years of recent phlebotomy experience in a hospital or healthcare system.

Experience performing 40-50 or more successful blood draws per shift in an outpatient laboratory setting.
