Job Title: Pipe Welder / Fitter Job Description This role focuses on installing, assembling, welding, and maintaining commercial and industrial piping systems, including both high‑pressure and low‑pressure lines. You will work with a variety of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, cast iron, and PVC to build and repair systems that transport chemicals, steam, oil, and gases. The position requires strong blueprint and P&ID interpretation skills, advanced welding capabilities, and a commitment to safety and quality.
You will collaborate closely with other trades on construction and renovation projects while ensuring all work meets industry standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Install, assemble, and maintain commercial and industrial piping systems, including high‑pressure and low‑pressure lines. Install, maintain, and repair high‑pressure industrial piping systems that transport chemicals, steam, oil, and gases.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and P&IDs to determine pipe layout, routing, and project specifications. Cut, weld, thread, bend, and fabricate pipe using materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, cast iron, and PVC. Perform pipe fitting and installation, including layout, measurement, and alignment of piping systems. Install valves, supports, hangers, and related components to ensure proper system functionality and structural integrity.
Test piping systems for leaks and integrity using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, and other diagnostic equipment. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on piping systems to ensure long‑term performance, reliability, and safety. Independently weld pipe to code and specification, following approved weld procedures and project requirements. Perform advanced welds in multiple positions, including 6G, and ensure welds meet visual and quality standards.
Read and interpret complex blueprints and weld procedure specifications (WPS) to plan and execute welding tasks. Inspect welds and piping installations to verify quality compliance and adherence to applicable codes and standards. Work collaboratively with other trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general contractors, on construction and renovation projects. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, job‑site safety protocols, and industry best practices at all times.
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, weld procedures followed, and system specifications. Participate in weld testing as required, including a 6G visual inspection test lasting approximately three hours. Essential Skills Hands‑on experience in pipe fitting and pipe installation for commercial and industrial piping systems. Proficiency in pipe welding, including performing advanced welds in multiple positions such as 6G.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, P&IDs, and complex weld procedure specifications (WPS). Skilled in cutting, threading, bending, and fabricating pipe using a range of tools and equipment. Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, cast iron, and PVC piping materials. Knowledge of industrial piping systems that transport chemicals, steam, oil, and gases.
Ability to perform brazing and soldering on appropriate materials and joints. Competence in testing systems for leaks and integrity using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, and diagnostic tools. Strong mechanical aptitude and experience cutting metal and fabricating pipe components. Understanding of OSHA regulations and commitment to following job‑site safety protocols and industry standards. Ability to work independently to weld pipe to code and specification while maintaining high quality standards.
