Production Specialist I

Job Title: Production Specialist I Job Description The Production Specialist I monitors and ensures product and material quality throughout the entire manufacturing process, including receiving, pin through-hole and surface mount components, finished PCBAs, box-level assemblies, and secondary or mechanical operations such as coating, potting, stamping, and painting. This role performs detailed inspections using specialized tools and systems, supports assembly operations as needed, and follows established procedures to identify, document, and address non-conformances.

Responsibilities Inspect products, components, and assemblies by confirming specifications, performing visual inspections, conducting measurement tests, and rejecting unacceptable materials, including raw materials and subassemblies. Perform in-process inspection of assemblies at multiple stages of the manufacturing process to ensure consistent quality. Use defined inspection tools such as microscopes, calipers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), automated optical inspection (AOI), X-ray equipment, or similar inspection devices to verify product quality.

Capture, record, and maintain inspection data accurately in the required systems and databases. Follow documented procedures when non-conformances are detected, including initiating appropriate actions and collaborating with the supervisor on resolution. Adhere to additional inspection instructions and quality standards defined by the organization, including IPC and related requirements. Perform product assembly tasks as required, including PCB, mechanical, electrical, and soldering assembly activities.

Operate visual inspection devices and equipment applicable to the operation, ensuring safe and effective use. Support manufacturing and production teams by assisting with assembly, rework, and testing activities as needed. Interpret and work from schematics, drawings, and work instructions to complete inspections and assembly tasks correctly. Communicate clearly in writing and verbally to describe defects, issues, and inspection results to colleagues at all levels of the organization.

Maintain an organized, detail-oriented approach to work and manage multiple activities concurrently in a dynamic production environment. Apply quality-focused thinking, challenge the status quo when appropriate, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Accurately distinguish different colours when inspecting components, materials, and assemblies. Follow all safety guidelines and use required personal protective equipment when working around machinery, solder, metals, and other production materials.

Participate in cross-training opportunities across departments to support team flexibility and skill development. Perform other related duties as assigned to support production, quality, and operational goals. Essential Skills Minimum of 1 year of working experience in electronics manufacturing, inspection, assembly, or a closely related role, or demonstrated equivalent competency to perform the tasks.

Hands-on SMT and through-hole soldering experience or strong PCB inspection experience, including PCBA assembly and soldering assembly work. Experience with testing and rework activities in a production or electronics environment. Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and work instructions. Proficient written and verbal communication skills to perform product inspections, document findings, and describe defects clearly to all levels of the organization.

Strong organization skills and attention to detail when performing inspections and assembly tasks. Quality-focused mindset with the ability to identify issues, challenge existing processes when appropriate, and support continuous improvement. Demonstrated knowledge of IPC standards and requirements, such as IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, and IPC-A-600.
