Job Title: Civil Project Manager Job Description The Civil Project Manager leads and delivers municipal and private sector projects focused on general site civil, water, and wastewater infrastructure. This role manages budgets, schedules, and engineering staff while providing technical leadership, analytical problem-solving, and collaborative project coordination. The Civil Project Manager serves as a primary client contact and ensures projects are designed and executed to meet technical, regulatory, and community needs.
Responsibilities Lead and manage civil engineering projects, including general civil site design, water main, and sewer infrastructure, from planning through preliminary and final design and contract document preparation. Plan, schedule, budget, coordinate, and execute assigned civil engineering work to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with client expectations. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining ongoing communication during proposal development and throughout project design and delivery.
Oversee project execution by reviewing work performed by project engineers and staff to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and accepted engineering practices. Coordinate effectively with internal engineering disciplines and external project stakeholders to support integrated, successful project delivery. Prepare and review technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and detailed construction cost estimates.
Supervise and mentor project engineers and staff, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development and high-quality work output. Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of new employees, contributing to the growth and strength of the civil engineering team. Attend project and progress meetings as required and represent the organization in client and project discussions.
Contribute to broader company growth initiatives and support business development and organizational activities related to civil, water, and wastewater infrastructure projects. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Minimum of ten years of progressive civil engineering experience, including civil design, construction administration, project management, and direct client interaction with municipal and private sector clients.
Strong project management skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet demanding schedules. Demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil engineering design. Experience in municipal engineering and public works projects. Hands-on experience with site civil and site civil design. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and effectively interface with clients and project teams.
Legally authorized to work in the United States. Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record. Additional Skills & Qualifications Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) registered in the State of Michigan is highly preferred. Experience with water and/or sewer hydraulic modeling. Proficiency with MicroStation for civil or infrastructure design is beneficial. Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
Background in hydraulics related to water and wastewater systems. Ability to work collaboratively across civil, environmental, geotechnical, and construction teams. Demonstrated client-facing experience with municipal and state agencies. Strong analytical and solution-oriented mindset with sound engineering judgment. Ability to mentor junior engineers and support team development. Work Environment This role is based in a West Bloomfield office where the civil engineering team is primarily located.
