Job Title: Rodman / Survey Crew Member Job Description This role offers a hands-on opportunity to join a growing survey and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) company as a Rodman on a field survey crew. You will work closely with the Crew Chief and other team members to support a variety of field survey and SUE projects, performing heavy manual labor, operating equipment, and helping to ensure accurate, timely project completion.

Responsibilities Assist the Crew Chief in completing assigned field survey projects accurately and on schedule. Transmit survey data to the appropriate files in the computer network and acquire data needed for field use.

Clear survey lines efficiently by cutting and removing brush and trees from the line of survey. Establish survey points, tape, chain, and level for various field survey projects as directed by the Crew Chief. Keep the crew’s assigned vehicle clean, properly maintained, and stocked with required equipment and supplies, and promptly report any mechanical or safety issues to the Crew Chief. Load, transport, clean, and properly store all field surveying equipment used by the crew.

Communicate and coordinate effectively with other crew members to support safe, efficient, and accurate project execution. Observe and follow all safety guidelines and procedures, especially when working around traffic or on active construction sites. Accurately identify various types of trees encountered during field survey work when required by the project. Assist in training entry-level Rodmen as requested, sharing knowledge of tools, techniques, and safety practices.

Perform physically demanding tasks including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or moving 50–75 pounds on a regular basis. Support SUE work by performing heavy labor such as using a jackhammer, digging, setting up sites, operating a vacuum truck, and performing site clean-up. Work in outdoor environments in extreme heat and weather conditions, maintaining productivity and safety.

Travel with the crew to various project locations, including out-of-town assignments requiring overnight stays during the workweek. Work overtime as needed to support project deadlines, including early morning start times and extended days. Essential Skills High school education or GED. Ability and willingness to perform heavy manual labor on a daily basis. Ability to work outside in extreme heat and varying weather conditions, particularly in Florida.

Capability to lift, carry, and move 50 pounds or more regularly and up to 50–75 pounds as needed. Experience working outdoors in Florida elements or similar environments. Willingness to travel for work, including potentially extensive travel up to 5 days during the week with overnight stays. Willingness to work overtime as required by project demands. Basic construction, labor, landscaping, or manual labor experience.

Ability to learn surveying techniques and procedures and apply them in the field. Reliability, strong work ethic, and motivation to learn and advance within the surveying and SUE field. Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines on active construction sites and around traffic. Effective communication skills to coordinate tasks with crew members and follow instructions from the Crew Chief. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous utility locating or survey experience is a plus.

Experience in construction, concrete work, masonry, rod busting, or similar trades is beneficial. Background in landscaping or other outdoor manual labor roles is advantageous. Familiarity with surveying, utility locating, and survey equipment operation is preferred. Ability to accurately identify various tree types encountered during field work is helpful
