Hiring Shop Hand / Forklift Operator in Harrisburg PA! Job Description We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Shop Hand / Forklift Operator to support daily operations in a clean, organized stainless steel fabrication environment. This role is responsible for material handling, forklift operation, shop organization, shipping and receiving support, and assisting production teams with fabrication-related tasks.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, team-oriented, and comfortable working throughout the shop to help maintain efficient production flow. Responsibilities Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to safely move raw materials, finished products, and work-in-process throughout the facility. Load and unload trucks, deliveries, stainless steel sheets, tubing, and fabrication materials.
Stage materials for laser cutting, welding, water jet, and fabrication operations according to production schedules. Support shipping and receiving activities, including material verification, inventory organization, and documentation. Transport finished parts and materials between departments while maintaining production flow. Assist welders and fabrication personnel with material preparation, grinding, deburring, cleaning, and general shop support.
Read work orders and production documents to ensure materials are delivered to the correct workstations. Essential Skills Previous experience operating a laser cutting machine in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Hands-on experience cutting stainless steel using laser equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and work orders. Proficiency using measuring equipment such as calipers, tape measures, and gauges for inspection.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality workmanship. Basic mechanical troubleshooting abilities to address minor equipment issues. Experience supporting welding and fabrication operations, including material preparation and finishing. Ability to work on feet throughout the shift and move between laser, water jet, and other shop areas. Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while meeting production targets.
Strong work ethic and team-oriented attitude with a willingness to assist in multiple areas of the shop. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous forklift operating experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or fabrication environment. Ability to safely move and handle large materials, including stainless steel sheets, tubing, and fabricated parts. Experience with shipping, receiving, material staging, and inventory organization.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety. Ability to read work orders, labels, and production instructions. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience using tape measures and basic inspection tools. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a standard weld and fabrication shop that is very clean, well-organized, and focused on safety and quality. You will be on your feet throughout the day, regularly moving between the laser, water jet, and other shop areas to support production. The position is on first shift, with schedule options of Tuesday–Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or Monday–Friday from 6:00 a.m.
