Job Title: Surveyor in Training Job Description The Surveyor in Training supports a wide range of land surveying activities, including CAD drafting and design, boundary analysis, title research, legal description preparation, easement documentation, survey calculations, and final deliverable reviews. This role ensures all work complies with applicable state regulations while collaborating with project teams to define scope, schedules, deliverables, and resource needs.

The position involves occasional travel for courthouse and record research, coordination with field and office staff, and active participation in maintaining high-quality standards and best practices within the surveying profession. Responsibilities Support CAD drafting and design for land surveying projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements. Perform boundary analysis, including evaluation of property boundaries using metes and bounds descriptions and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) methodologies.

Conduct title research and prepare legal descriptions and easement documentation in compliance with applicable state regulations. Assist with survey calculations and review final deliverables to ensure they meet quality and regulatory standards. Collaborate with project teams to define project scope, schedules, deliverables, and resource requirements. Conduct occasional travel to courthouses and other locations to perform record and document research as needed.

Coordinate effectively with field crews, survey technicians, engineering staff, and office personnel to support successful project execution. Perform thorough QA/QC reviews to maintain the accuracy, completeness, and quality of survey deliverables. Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, software, equipment, and best practices within the surveying profession. Ensure adherence to company, regional, and departmental policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Demonstrate leadership qualities by exhibiting integrity, professionalism, sound judgment, accountability, and a collaborative attitude. Manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality output. Locate, research, and recover Public Land Survey System (PLSS) monuments and other survey evidence as part of boundary determination. Travel for project assignments and work from project sites or other office locations for extended periods when required.

Manage travel-related expenses in accordance with company reimbursement policies. Essential Skills Experience in land surveying, including boundary analysis, topographic surveys, and construction-related surveying. Surveyor in Training (SIT) certification preferred. Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and 3+ years of land surveying experience will be considered.

Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for survey drafting and design. Experience with survey calculations and preparation of legal descriptions and easement documents. Familiarity with Public Land Survey System (PLSS) methodologies and monument recovery. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across project teams. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently on complex assignments.

Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables. Ability and willingness to travel for project assignments and work from project sites or other office locations for extended periods when required. Comfort managing travel-related expenses in accordance with company reimbursement policies.
