Job Title: VDC Manager Job Description The Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Manager leads Building Information Modeling (BIM) administration and coordination for assigned construction projects, with a focus on delivering complex 3D models, technical documentation, and model-based solutions. This role provides advanced BIM technical support to internal teams, drives 3D coordination efforts, and implements project-specific VDC strategies that align with overall project objectives.
The VDC Manager oversees VDC processes, supports field and self-perform operations, and ensures that BIM standards, deliverables, and schedules are consistently met. Responsibilities Manage VDC processes and activities to support assigned projects from planning through execution. Provide models and documents necessary to complete the agreed project scope in collaboration with VDC/BIM leadership and project teams.
Create and maintain clear and accurate project documentation, including meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and constraint logs. Read and interpret shop drawings, submittals, and product data, and incorporate all relevant information into the BIM process. Support operations with the Request for Information (RFI) process for BIM-related items, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Manage and maintain a productive and efficient BIM process, continuously improving workflows and standards.
Collaborate with VDC leadership and self-perform VDC teams to ensure general VDC services, deliverables, and schedules are maintained to meet project objectives. Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, subcontractors, and project teams to support coordinated project delivery. Read and interpret owner requirements, BIM execution plans, and front-end scopes of work, ensuring minimum project requirements are met.
Develop composite models by assembling 3D content provided by designers and trade contractors, and create additional models for content not provided. Lead the VDC processes and enforce VDC standards across multiple projects. Manage project change processes and incorporate changes into all project models, tracking and communicating schedule and budget impacts to operations teams in a timely manner.
Provide BIM technical support to internal project teams, troubleshooting issues and advising on best practices. Participate in the development of project-specific BIM execution plans and VDC budgets. Implement best practices and standardized processes for BIM and VDC across assigned projects. Lead design and project teams through the full VDC process on multiple large and complex projects. Partner with cross-functional teams by providing model-based support and solutions that enhance project planning and execution.
Implement and lead project-specific VDC strategies to meet overall project objectives and goals. Implement BIM and field layout processes on projects, with a particular focus on self-perform VDC activities where applicable. Identify BIM and self-perform scopes of work and support BIM/VDC self-perform processes as needed. Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision to others, as required, including mentoring and guiding team members.
Assume responsibility for day-to-day financial management of assigned scope by understanding the budget process, accurately forecasting, and limiting month-to-month fluctuations. Maintain fiscal records and follow established procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations. Understand the broader business plan and manage financial goals for VDC-related activities. Proactively monitor and interpret ongoing financial performance and respond appropriately to variances.
