Job Description The Agency You’ll Join: In November 2022, New York City voters overwhelmingly approved three ballot proposals that put racial equity and justice at the heart of city government, including the NYC Commission on Racial Equity (NYC CORE). The first of its kind in the nation, the NYC Commission on Racial Equity is an independent 15-member commission responsible for engaging diverse communities to guide and assess the City’s racial equity planning process.

NYC CORE provides accountability for New Yorkers, regularly evaluating the City’s progress on its racial requirements and goals. NYC CORE will be composed of diverse New Yorkers with equity expertise and/or relevant lived experience, serving as a conduit to bring historically excluded communities and voices into government decision-making. The Team You’ll Work With: NYC CORE is an independent commission to hold the NYC government accountable to advance racial equity in government operations and to increase community voice in government decision-making.

The Chair & Executive Director is jointly appointed by the Mayor and the New York City Council Speaker. Other NYC CORE commissioners are appointed by the Mayor, City Council Speaker, City Comptroller, and Public Advocate. The Commission's staff is responsible for executing the Commission's day-to-day mission and setting its path to success. NYC CORE team takes the vision of the Chair & Executive Director and the Commissioners and translates it into action strategies and plans that implement accountability for racial equity in the city.

Like the Commission itself, the Commission’s staff aims to be representative of New Yorkers from all communities and walks of life. Staff bring an accountability mindset to their work, ensuring they collaborate with city agencies and voice public concerns. The Problems You’ll Solve The Senior Data Associate, Children and Family Well-being will work on research projects that span government policymaking, and center lived experiences of children and family well-being within communities harmed by racism and social injustice.

Research projects will cover areas including but not limited to New York City’s child welfare systems, education, cost of living, access to safe and stable housing, food, health, trauma, mental health care, transportation, childcare supports and resources. The Senior Data Associate will report to the Senior Director for Research and Policy. RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct quantitative and qualitative research to inform policies and programs that impact the well-being of children and families and advance racial equity in government systems.

Analyze demographic, Census data, survey data and other publicly available datasets using descriptive and higher-level multivariate statistical methods to identify trends, disparities, and opportunities for government policies and programs to advance racial equity. Design, conduct, and analyze qualitative research through interviews, focus groups, surveys, and other community engagement methods to center lived experiences and integrate community knowledge in policy development, evaluation, and systems change.

Apply mixed-methods research approached to synthesize and translate qualitative and quantitative findings into clear, accessible reports, presentations, dashboards, or other types of data visualizations and policy recommendations. Executing comprehensive literature, policy memos, policy reports, presentations, and other research products for policymakers, practitioners and other internal and external stakeholders Collaborate with cross-agency partners to design, monitor, and interpret performance metrics, goals, indicators, and evaluation frameworks related to Citywide Racial Equity Plans and other policies and practices that impact the well-being of children and families in New York City.
