Job Description In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Traffic Control Inspector or must have taken, passed, and be reachable on the Open Competitive Traffic Control Inspector Exam # 3062. The Division of Traffic Operations is seeking to hire a Traffic Control Inspector, Level 1, for the Signals Timing and Intersection Control Unit. The successful candidate will conduct surveys and studies for traffic signals, All-Way Stop controls, left-turn treatments, and Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) across all five boroughs.
The candidate will study traffic conditions to identify ways to reduce congestion and crashes and improve the operation of street and transportation facilities. Responsibilities include conducting traffic studies related to conditions, problems, changes, and improvements involving traffic controls, signal operations, safety, access, circulation, vehicular and pedestrian volumes, crash patterns, and speed conditions.
The successful candidate will also make recommendations regarding the need for traffic signs, traffic signals (including modifications), Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS), street lighting, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices. Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of appointment in this position.

- Ability to utilize computer skills to access and process collected data. - Candidate should be able to read blueprints and be proficient in preparing field sketches. - Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
