Job Summary The Estimator is responsible for leading and/or supporting a team in the development of project estimates and proposals for Construction, EPC and Bid build projects as well as present them to internal and external stakeholders. This will require a thorough knowledge of the industrial projects and scope being performed including multiple trades, the ability to do quantity take-offs from the documents available and enter into a standardized database in preparation for review of discipline as well as consolidated project estimates.  The estimates will need to be organized in a manner that would meet the Company’s and Clients’ structure.

This position is located in the Houston, TX office.  Essential Functions Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.” Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.” Leads and/or supports estimating processes from start to finish.

Leads and/or supports the estimating team assigned for proposals and assures the quality and accuracy of each team member’s work. Assures that estimates follow the Chart of Accounts (COA) structure and develops estimate Work Breakdown Structure) WBS to meet company and department standards, the, other stakeholders, and compliance with client bid forms or other requirements. Discerns take-off elements of the work accurately and assigns them to the appropriate items in the database, makes recommendations about how to change the standard database items to more closely reflect the scope of work (SOW) and field conditions.

Demonstrates an understanding of the Proposal and Project Life Cycle processes, Project Management process and the degrees of uncertainty that apply to estimate and proposal as they are developed throughout the project life cycle. Uses this knowledge to identify assumptions and risks and develop and present contingencies. Ensures that Scope and engineering deliverables align with range of estimate standards, accuracy and are used to prepare the consolidated estimate.  Perform detailed reviews with vendors to ensure their pricing is comprehensive and compliant.

Assist in the solicitation of subcontract and vendor proposals, utilizing uniform corporate structure and evaluate for completeness and compliance.  Identifies deficiencies in the drawings and generates pricing and qualifications to address variances. Understands the need for evaluating the team’s scope clarifications, and drafts/edits scope clarifications as needed. Develops quantity-based estimates from partial information.

Develops piping estimates based on partial information, including generating pipe take-offs from Plot plans and P&ID. Develops mechanical estimates based on equipment list(s), Specifications, Plot plans, SWO and RFQ as well as other partial information. Monitors the scope of the project to ensure that all trades have been coordinated and a complete estimate and proposal is being offered. Ensures that estimates are generated in a way that allows take-offs and pricing to be traced directly back to a defining document.

Prepares bridging documents demonstrating an understanding of how historical estimated costs have changed from previous estimates. Participates in constructability reviews and cost saving enhancement discussions for constructability assessments, e.g., installation access, manlifts, scaffolding, cranes, etc. Organizes the estimate in a manner required to meet the needs of the project. Facilitates understanding of the estimate by team members.
