These three positions are located within the Environmental Management Services Division, at the CWM VA Medical Center in Leeds MA. EVS Technicians perform both janitorial and custodial services, textile distribution and inventory activity, sanitizing and disinfecting, waste removal, cleaning of blinds, replacing curtains, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures, discharge cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing and extracting, polishing floors and applying floor finishes.
Major duties: The Housekeeping Aid executes a full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non-patient care areas. The position may be assigned to any tour and may be required to work in various designated areas during any tour of duty. Typically, the position works independently with general supervision, or works with a team and is responsible for the full-range of cleaning duties in an assigned area throughout the medical facility.
Duties include but are not limited to: Clean wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas. Sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture.
Carry out assignments with minimal supervision. Empties trash and wastebaskets, replaces liners. Transports general refuse, regulated medical waste and recycling to central collection areas Moves and arranges furniture, patient wardrobes, beds, etc. in the assigned area to accomplish cleaning tasks. Provides interim cleaning of windows and window ledges from the inside, cleans glass door and other glass surfaces; and replaces curtains and cleans blinds.
Performs a full range of deep cleaning duties and special cleaning tasks in accordance with established housekeeping and aseptic techniques. Mental concentration is necessary to plan, schedule and accomplish work on own initiative. Deviation from routine schedules is frequent to prevent interruption of the patient care activities. Address spills quickly. Possesses good interpersonal skills (cheerful, congenial, and caring) due to working in close proximity to patients Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 Hours a week, Various Tours 3:30pm-12:00am (Monday- Friday) and 6:00am - 2:30pm (Sunday-Thursday), EST.

This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System.
Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment. Current employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).
