This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Security and Preparedness (OSP), Field Operations Division, VA Police Service. The mission of the VA Police Service is to provide law enforcement, protective services, and investigative services to the VA Community, Major duties: - Coordinate multi-facility physical security program across HCS (VA-owned/leased). Leads COP efforts, implements initiatives, and acts for Police leadership on program matters.
- Serve as Physical Security SME to Medical Center leadership and Police Services; advise on requirements/policy/countermeasures. - Manage vetting and access control (IPPM) to ensure individuals are properly vetted; support VHA/VBA/NCA. - Conduct audits/surveys/vulnerability assessments; inspect EACS/CCTV/intrusion & duress alarms; document discrepancies & corrective actions. - Recommend security systems/countermeasures to Facility Security Committees & Chief of Police; provide options/cost/implementation guidance.
- Ensure compliance with ISC standards & VA physical-security policy in design/construction/leasing; provide technical advisement; monitor compliance. - Maintain Physical Security Tracking Report; analyze security data; produce reports/graphs/presentations; verify confidentiality/data integrity. - Plan, conduct, and finalize inspections with conclusions/recommendations; forward discrepancies to COTR/COR.
- Perform law-enforcement duties on VA property (Title 38 §§901-902): enforce laws, preserve peace, investigate, execute warrants, arrest, report. - Pursue/apprehend offenders; coordinate with external jurisdictions, including hot pursuit when authorized. -Lead/participate in Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention (Veteran-Centric Policing); advanced de-escalation; coordinate with clinical partners.
- Develop/deliver physical-security & crisis training; lead COP knowledge sharing. - Prepare professional leadership briefings/presentations summarizing findings, trends, recommendations.
