You will serve as a Training Specialist with National Park Service. This role serves as a training specialist for a National Park Service Unit. The position is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing the Unit's education program at the early childhood through post-secondary levels. This is a temporary promotion not to exceed 1-year and can be extended up to 5 years. This temporary promotion may be made permanent without further competition.

Major duties: Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates, and presents the Unit's education programs, on and off site, as part of the overall interpretive effort. Develops and directs the curriculum materials, scheduling and logistics. Designs and/or collects curriculum materials for specific grade levels to facilitate pre-visit classroom preparation and provide meaningful follow-up activities.

Evaluates all curriculum materials for appropriateness and effectiveness. Responsible for ensuring the Unit is represented at all educational activities. Purchases and ensures maintenance of equipment and supplies for environmental education programs. Assists schools and other educational institutions in developing their own education programs. Assists students with planning and implementing individual studies, group projects, and action-oriented activities.

Prepares and presents a variety of regularly scheduled training programs designed to enhance environmental awareness within the staff and improve employee and visitor safety. Prepares and reviews publications and literature related to all educational activities including information brochures, traveling exhibits, curriculum material, newsletters, and evaluative materials to assure their proper relationships with unit policy and themes and appropriate educational techniques.

Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on weekends and may be on-call, evenings, holidays, overtime and shift work. You will be required to be a Fee Collection Officer Ability to lift up to 40 of pounds. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.
