The Grinder performs a variety of internal and external surfaces and finishes grinding operations (i.e. finish, straighten, taper, face, contour, recess, groove, form, step, etc.). Grinding is performed on a variety of parts on various metals and alloys following standard method and procedures. Essential Duties: Casting Preparation and Grinding Process Castings: Efficiently remove excess metal, including flash, sprues, gates, and risers, from castings using a variety of equipment.

Utilize Diverse Tools: Expertly operate and maintain hand-held grinders, backstand grinders, swing grinders, belt sanders, air-powered tools, and band saws to cut and shape parts. Achieve Finish Specifications: Smooth and shape surfaces, blending welds and repairs into surrounding metal to achieve specified tolerances and finish levels. Repair Defects: Execute cosmetic defect repair through techniques such as peening, puttying, and precision grinding.

Deburr and Clean: Deburr and clean finished castings to eliminate sharp edges and prepare them for subsequent processes. Remove Cores: Utilize a knockout machine and chisel to effectively remove cores from castings. Blasting and Surface Finishing Operate Blasting Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate and maintain tumbler blasting equipment to clean casting surfaces. Optimize Blasting: Adjust blast settings (air pressure, media flow, wheel speed) to achieve optimal cleaning and required surface finish for various materials.

Material Handling (Blaster): Load and unload castings into the blaster, safely utilizing hands, hoists, and cranes as required. Maintain Media: Monitor and change or replenish blast media to ensure continuous, high-quality operation. Quality Inspection and Documentation Visual Inspection: Conduct thorough visual inspections of all castings for surface defects such as cracks, porosity, or inclusions.

Mark and Document: Accurately mark defective areas for repair or final rejection, communicating quality issues to the supervisor. Quality Compliance: Apply date stamps to parts in compliance with documented quality control procedures. Tool Selection: Select and utilize the appropriate grinding wheels, tools, and abrasives based on the specific material and required surface finish. Equipment Maintenance and Safety Equipment Setup and Adjustment: Set up, adjust, and monitor grinders for optimal speed, angle, and performance.

Routine Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance on grinding and blasting equipment (e.g., changing wheels, cleaning filters, lubricating parts). Tool Management: Monitor grinding tools for wear or damage and promptly replace components to maintain efficiency and safety. Safe Operations: Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (gloves, face shields, ear protection, steel toes, safety glasses).

Facility Support: Complete daily checklists for motorized equipment (crane/hoist, electric pallet jack, tow motor). Environmental Control: Operate and monitor dust collection and ventilation systems to minimize airborne particles and ensure compliance with environmental standards. General Support: Assist with the handling and movement of castings within the facility, utilizing pallet jacks, cranes, hoists, or forklifts.
