Job Purpose : The Transport Engineer is responsible for defining the technical strategy and evolution of the platforms and associated products consuming the capabilities developed. Collaborating with the Architects to translate business needs into innovative business solutions that will improve the customer experience and is responsible to Test, Validate, Design, Develop and document technologies and solutions for a variety of communication applications.
Essential Functions : Providing the highest level of technical expertise to internal and external customers in altafiber's transport network. Serving as a point of escalation to vendors for technical problems that are chronic or inherent to the design of a network element. Monitoring network elements and setting resource requirements. Maintaining effective methods and procedures. Ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Responsible for establishing technical standards for DWDM, SONET, DCS and other legacy transport equipment. Responsible for the development of Next Generation Network and Service standards and policies. Assist Operations team with First Office Applications and/or initial customer deployment. Provide Tier III/IV support to Engineering and Services Operations Team on escalated technical issues. Education : Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses : Professional level certifications for various Core applications -- IP/Transport, Access, Data Center, VoIP and Middleware preferred Relevant Work Experience: 7 to 10 years in related field.
Experience with altafiber's products and services a plus. Thorough technical knowledge of telecom networks. Ability to handle multiple problems simultaneously. Strong interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written). Ability to apply simple financial analysis tools. Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Extensive knowledge and experience in lab testing and proof of concept Knowledge and experience in performing analysis, debugging and resolving network hardware and software problems in a production and lab network Knowledge and experience with Telco provisioning processes Project management Knowledge and experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to evaluate product and service behaviors Working knowledge of troubleshooting tools Supervisory Responsibility : This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities
