A back-end role for a Java developer who is as comfortable inside the database as in the service layer. You’ll build Spring Boot services and APIs, and own a real share of the SQL beneath them: queries, stored procedures and schema design. The organisation is large and established. The services you build are used by its own teams and by the clients they serve, so reliability and security are part of the job from the first commit.
What you’ll do Build and maintain Java services on Spring Boot, from first design through testing to production Write, tune and refactor SQL, including stored procedures, indexes and table design Design the APIs that other systems integrate with, inside and outside the business Review colleagues’ code, and keep your own secure, readable and well tested What you’ll need 5+ years of commercial back-end development with a relevant degree (computer science, IT or similar), or 10+ years without one Strong Java with Spring Boot, building RESTful APIs Experience designing and running services in a microservices setup Test-driven development Relational databases in depth Knowledge of security best practice Experience working in Scrum teams Nice to have MongoDB Some front-end exposure Cape Town.
