Senior Software Engineer Scope and Purpose of the Role As a Senior Engineer within the engineering team, you will be a hands-on individual contributor who leads through technical expertise and influence. You will define how the team addresses complex challenges, design services and components within the broader architecture, and take ownership of quality, security, reliability, and customer value from concept to production.
Your team context will determine your specific product area and specialism — for example, front end, back end, mobile, APIs and integrations, data and algorithms, cloud and platform, or quality engineering — while maintaining the shared expectations set for the IC4 level. Key Responsibilities Deliver Valuable Outcomes Translate customer, product, and technical objectives into clear scope, plans, estimates, and measurable results.
Break down complex projects, identify dependencies, and adjust scope to meet deadlines without over-engineering. Align technical decisions with customer experience, business priorities, cost, risk, and time to value. Utilise product, operational, and delivery data to verify that outcomes deliver intended value. Design and Build Systems Design complete services and significant components within company architecture and strategy.
Define clear boundaries, interfaces, abstractions, and integration methods to facilitate safe future changes. Assess existing libraries, services, and managed solutions before development; make pragmatic build-versus-leverage choices. Write simple, robust, observable, and maintainable code and documentation tailored to the intended audience. Own Quality and Operations Ensure automated tests cover core paths and critical edge cases; use metrics and logs to identify quality or performance issues.
Lead secure design and threat modelling using established frameworks and best practises. Set and achieve relevant non-functional requirements and service-level objectives within your area. Lead deployment, incident response, and post-incident reviews, driving lasting fixes to prevent recurring issues. ,
