Store Manager (Outback Adventures-Surf/Snow/Out)

The Outback Adventures Store Manager is a new career position, responsible for the overall management and operation of the Outback Adventures store. Store consists of surf, snow and outdoor-related retail, rentals, and equipment servicing. The newly designed and built 1650 square foot store in the student union is a major expansion of Outback's retail, rental and service offerings. Manager ensures that the store enhances Outback Adventure's mission to provide opportunities for challenge, leadership and environmental responsibility through adventure experiences.

Position ensures the store provides the highest level of customer service possible. Outback Adventures is the outdoor recreation program of the University of California-San Diego. Position ensures the sound business and financial performance of a new self-funded operation. This individual conducts strategic planning, financial goal setting, prepares annual budgets, and develops strategies to achieve goals.

Performs all buying and selling, vendor negotiation, establishing retail, rental and service pricing strategies merchandising inventory investment and control public relations event planning and space allocation. Develops and implements effective advertising, marketing and new business development strategies to increase revenue. Selects, trains, motivates and manages performance of a highly knowledgeable student staff to provide excellent customer service to the campus and local community regarding action sports and outdoor recreation activity and product information.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated: knowledge of principles of retail management and merchandising gained through retail management experience ability to hire, train and motivate part-time/student employees and build effective sales/customer service teams experience buying, establishing prices, merchandising, selling and inventory management for products and services normally carried in a surf/outdoor store knowledge of effective merchandise presentation standards, including floor layout, promotions, point of purchase materials and displays ability in achieving sales and gross margin goals ability to manage inventory, and to plan and achieve turnover goals.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Background check required. Must have/be able to obtain valid CA driver's license, and maintain good driving record and participate in DMV pull notice program throughout duration of employment.
